DIY: Making A Dress Form Out Of Duct Tape
For months I've been eyeing this Singer dress form on Amazon (I don't have affiliate links or anything). Unfortunately, I've never seen it priced lower than $115 *Update: now it's $99!*. I got so close to finding one on Craigslist, but it sold before I could text the seller. So I decided to try the crazy thing I've seen other crafters do online and make my own! Honestly, I really didn't see it going super well...
But, I researched other blogs (I'll link to the super useful ones I found below!) and I decided to give it a try. So, off to Home Depot.
I decided if I was going to build my own I'd make it as close to my personal preferences as possible. So, I needed a very sturdy stand that I preferred to be on wheels for maximum flexibility (since I don't have a large dedicated craft space, just a corner). At Home Depot the boyfriend (such helpful creatures ;) ) and I picked out what you see in the picture above. I went with metal over plastic for durability.
Much to my surprise (after maybe one or two more trips to Home Depot and Walmart) it actually worked out! Sturdy? Check! Durable? Check! Maneuverable? Check! Here you see it before it's been stuffed, I had to take a break for a few weeks to work on Chapter Four. :) Pictures of the finished dress form coming soon.
And here's Dobby, enjoying a patch of sunshine on her new perch!
